So today, I was all set to return to the blogosphere, when a funny thing happened. I accidentally downloaded a virus, and now my computer is acting crazy – so crazy, in fact, that I must stop writing and surfing, and turn my beloved laptop over to the hubby for an all-night repair job.
Since it’s “Whimsical Wednesday” in my little world, I was reflecting on one of my favorite interests... words, of course! I love words, breathe words, live for words. Don’t most of us? So, taking a cue from my fellow blogger Martha Warner, who typically features an unusual or interesting word on Wednesdays, I’ve decided to focus on two: one that I love and one that I hate. The one that I love is “chocolate” – as in, “I just ate a piece of dark chocolate, and it was awesome.” The one that I hate is “hacker” – as in, “I really wish that a hacker hadn’t messed up my computer for no good reason.”
Why are there such mean people in the world?

Good luck with your computer!!!!
Hope everything works out okay, Laura. My electronics have been dying a painful death this week. Hang in there girl!
I have no answer to your question, instead I find myself asking the very same thing over and over again.
Fingers crossed for a speady recovery.
OMG! I agree. Why are there such malicious people out there? Surely there must be better things to do?!?! Ugh! I hope all goes well.
Mmmm ... chocolate. *drools*
Oh wait, you mentioned the word "hacker" too. Um yeah, focused too much on the chocolate. Sorry.
Yeah that stinks about the computer. Although be happy that you're not like a friend of mine -- who managed to accidentally knock out one of her college's computer labs single-handedly.
Computer problems are such a bummer! I don't understand what could make people so mean that they would ruin the computer's of people they don't even know. Down with hackers!
I've heard of several people having computer troubles lately. I hope yours gets taken care of soon.
Thanks, Michelle! (I like your new photo, BTW.)
Thanks, Deb. I'm sorry you're going through similar pains this week.
Thanks, Chris - and, yes, there's no simple justification for mean people.
Thanks! :D
Becky - Wish I knew why malicious people exist. That's something we might never understand. :-( But the good news is that my dear Danny seems to have fixed my computer... for now.
Matt - Yeah, chocolate can be terribly distracting. Even if nasty hackers are involved. ;-) As for my computer, it seems to be better now. Yahoo! And, yes, I'm delighted that I didn't knock out an entire lab. Phew!
Natalie - Bummer indeed. And, yes, down with hackers (and mean people, too)!
Susan - Sorry to hear that. Maybe that hacker's getting around. Thanks for the well wishes - all's better now!
Lady Glamis - You're welcome. :-)
First the hate...
Hacker - noun
1. a person or thing that hacks.
2. [Slang] a person who engages in an activity without talent or skill: weekend hackers on the golf course.
3. [Computer Slang] a microcomputer user who attempts to gain unauthorized access to proprietary computer systems.
**Honestly, after #1, I totally saw my computer gnome cocking his head, "Really? Duh!"**
Now the love...
Chocolate - noun
1. a preparation of the seeds of cacao, roasted, husked, and ground, often sweetened and flavored, as with vanilla.
2. candy made from such a preparation.
3. an individual piece of this candy.
Yummy! Sorry about the 'puter! Hope all is well now.
Thanks, Martha! All seems to be better now.
Oh no -- sorry to hear your computer is in ICU. Thankfully chocolate has the power to take your mind off such annoyances.
