Whimsical Wednesday: A Haunting Fascination
Over the past couple of weeks, it seems that I've been obsessed with haunted places. It all started two weekends ago, when Dan and I decided to visit our friends Warren and Missy near Flint, Michigan. While down there, the four of us dined at the supposedly haunted Historic Holly Hotel. Although we didn't experience any paranormal activity that night, it led me to think about all the other allegedly haunted locales in the United States, from San Diego's Whaley House to Miami's Biltmore Hotel.
Despite being a hopeful skeptic who's never witnessed any otherworldly entities, I was intrigued enough to write a travel blog series about the 10 most haunted cities in America, including such atmospheric places as Key West, Chicago, Savannah, and New Orleans. If you have a chance, take a look at my list – and let me know if I've missed a town or two. And, of course, feel free to share any spectral encounters of your own.
Unfortunately, given my lack of real-life ghost stories, I can only contribute to fictional ones, like the one we're currently unraveling at Come In Character. Of course, if you're interested, you're welcome to join in the spooky fun!

I too am interested in haunted places. Australia has plenty because we were a convict colony with many jails and asylums. Your writings about the ones in the US sound great.
Haunted places and paranormal stuff give me the heebie-geebies! They've jut never interested me. Yes, I suppose I'm a scardy-cat!
We had a ghost in our honeymoon suite in New Orleans, so I agree with N.O. I'm not a big paranormal believer, but this one "visit" was hard to explain any other way :-). What a fun subject!!

Tabitha - Oh, I'll bet that Australia has its share of haunted places, especially, as you said, jails and asylums. Those are often the most haunted - after all, they usually have the greatest number of sad and tragic tales in their past. Alcatraz, for instance, is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in San Francisco.
Bridget & Susan - No doubt if I ever experienced an actual haunting, it'd probably give me the heebie-jeebies, too, but until then, I remain fascinated with all things scary. After all, I'm a big fan of horror movies!
Becky - Wow! That sounds creepy indeed. New Orleans has a ton of allegedly haunted hotels, especially in the French Quarter. So, where did you stay for your honeymoon?
Park view guest house... I don't think it has a reputation as being haunted, but it was the night we stayed there!
Interesting, Becky. I didn't think Park View had a ghostly reputation, but you never know in New Orleans. The spirits could be anywhere!
