On Tuesday, Angie Ledbetter, Gumbo Writer extraordinaire, asked her friends, colleagues, and blog followers for a little favor. Because it was the day after I’d turned in my book proposal – and, therefore, I was still suffering from an overwrought brain – I failed to notice her request in my inbox. But I noticed it today – only five days late. Oops.
I’m sorry, Miss Angie. Will you ever forgive me?
Apparently, she and fellow writer Kat Magendie have been working hard (or, as Angie so eloquently put it, working their “bahonkusses off”) to renovate and remodel their online literary journal, in preparation for their re-launch this week with the fall issue.
So, although I’m a bit late with this announcement, it can’t hurt to post it anyway. What’s that saying? Better late than never? Describes me to a tee.
Anyhoo, here’s the good news that Angie would like me to spread:
You are cordially invited to attend an “open house” beginning Wednesday, October 14, in honor of the newly renovated Rose & Thorn Journal:
Drop by, sign up for the newsletter, check out the new digs (and blog!), follow us on Twitter and Facebook, leave us your comments/thoughts, and wish us well!
Rose & Thorn is a quarterly literary journal featuring the voices of emerging and established authors, poets, and artists.
Now...go enjoy the open bar and appetizer spread!
Angie Ledbetter & Kathryn Magendie
Co-Editor/Publishers
Rose & Thorn Journal
P.S. Because I find it difficult posting anything to my blog without a photo, I thought I’d offer some delicious New Orleans-style appetizers of my own (Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters Bienville). Angie and Kat should appreciate the cuisine – after all, Kat formerly called Louisiana home and Angie still does!

Congrats and best of luck to Angie & Kat!
I'm not a huge fan of oysters but those look tempting smothered in all that yummy goodness... mmm
I am just getting on the oyster train. I still can't bear the thought of raw. But these look delish. :)
Ooh, those look yummy!! I did pop over to Angie's new blog last week. Looking forward to reading more of it!
Deb - Oh, these are terrific, but I must admit I'm an even bigger sucker for the plain ol' raw kind. In fact, they're my first stop when I arrive in New Orleans this week!
Roni - But I thought you were from Louisiana?! For shame! Just kidding - it took my father (a native New Orleanian) years to try a raw oyster - and now he adores them almost as much I do.
Eileen - Cool. Yeah, I checked out the new journal, too - must return when I have half a minute. ;-)
I can't say I've ever wanted to eat an oyster, but those look yummy!
Don't torture me too much with your N.O. culinary home comings in the next few weeks. My first stop is usually something with shrimp! Bar-B Que (N.O.style) or Po-Boys are my favorites!
Oh, but, Susan, they're so delicious!
Sorry, Becky, I'll try hard not to. Lucky for you, we're on a tight budget, so we might not be able to eat out as often as we normally do in the Big Easy!
Thank you, sweet bloggy friend! And "better late than never" is my motto. :)
Thank you for the R&T mention *smiling*
I just returned from Louisiana Land - had some "swimps" and all kinds of good eats...and best of all, got to hug Angie!
