As I've previously indicated, Dan and I are both movie nuts – which is a good thing because, otherwise, one of us would've surely driven the other crazy by now. Over the years, we've done some wacky things when it comes to movies. We've driven four hours out of our way in order to catch the 3-D version of a horror film. We've stood in long lines for hours – just to watch free preview screenings of movies like Identity (2003) and Bruce Almighty (2003), which we actually got to see in a small screening room at Universal Studios, with Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and Jennifer Aniston in attendance. We've braved the cold of Park City, Utah, just to see movies at the Sundance and Slamdance film festivals that we might never have seen otherwise. We've even done marathon-like events such as “Trilogy Tuesday,” during which we viewed over twelve hours' worth of Peter Jackson's masterful Lord of the Rings trilogy.
So, it comes as no surprise that we've already purchased our tickets for Avatar – and we'll be seeing it in about twenty-four hours, at the first midnight screening available in the New Orleans area. As stated in an earlier post, Dan and I are totally, freakin' excited about this movie. Of course, we hope that the 3-D flick lives up to its hype ('cause the reviews are pretty good overall), but more than anything, we're just totally psyched to be attending a midnight movie. Yeah, I told you we were nuts!

I've yet to attend a midnight showing of anything, but I did once go to a movie theater's test-screening of Shanghai Knights the day before it came out in theaters.

I love midnight showings. But they're generally only worth it if it's movie I really want to see.

I would so love to do this, but midnight screenings, sadly, are probably things of yesteryear for me.
The only midnight showings I've been to are Harry Potter (of course) and Lord of the Rings. I wish my hubby and I went to movies more often - guess I'd better work on that! ;-)

L.T. - I fully agree. Staying up that late is only worth it if the excitement is high, which it is for us.
Bane - Whatever could you mean? Aren't you my age? If I'm not too old for midnight screenings, neither are you. Course, I am pretty darn crazy. ;-)
Have fun! Of course you failed to mention that a midnight showing in N.O. is like an 8pm showing in any other town. In N.O. at midnight, the night is still young! I can remember going to bars that didn't open until midnight when I lived there.

Midnight showings are awesome--I love the energy. Dom has to work the next couple of nights, but we're planning on seeing it Saturday. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.
Avatar! Oh, that's one I seriously want to see, and on the big screen. I've actually contemplated going all the way to Sacramento to the iMax theater for that showing.
But I know me; I'm not dedicated to the arts, and traveling seems like such work. A couple weeks ago I heard TSO was playing in Sacramento, and I almost called on my niece to go with me.
Then I thought of all the long lines, the crowds, the time spent driving (she lives an hour in the opposite direction of the concert site, which is 1.5 hours from my house directly) and I just fizzled out on the idea.
I know; when Avatar comes out on DVD I'll have all my friends bring over their big screen TV's and we'll place them in a circle with the surround sound and be just as entertained withoug the drive.
Yeah, yeah; I'm lazy.

Oh, Donna, I just came home from my long-awaited Avatar viewing, and I just have to say... It was so freakin' awesome!!! There are almost no words to express its awesomeness. This is a film that absolutely MUST BE SEEN in a movie theater - preferably in IMAX 3-D. It's even worth a drive to Sacramento. Seriously - it's that good. P.S. Sam Worthington, btw, is totally dreamy. Now, I can't wait for Clash of the Titans.

And, wow, seems like you really liked it. I'm definitely gonna see it in 3-D... Maybe even in IMAX if I can stomach the 2 hour line (yes, I'm a curmudgeon).
Oh, I get being busy, Bane, and tired, for that matter - but some things are just more important. And seeing Avatar in the theater is one of those things. Well, it is for me and Dan anyway. ;-)
Stomach the two-hour wait! It's totally worth it.
