Friday Fantasies: Movie Night!

In less than a week, Dan and I will be welcoming filmmakers to our third annual Big Easy International Film Festival, so you’d think we’d be “movied out” – but, alas, no. A passion for movies is one of the many things that bind us. We both studied film in college, and together, we’ve happily stood in line for hours to see sneak previews of soon-to-be-released films, attended cinematic events like the Sundance Film Festival, and run three different film festivals of our own. We’ve even set up our own screening room in northern Michigan, complete with a surround-sound system, an enormous screen hanging from the ceiling, and two recliner armchairs.

So, it might come as no surprise that Friday is usually our movie night, and despite all we still have to do prior to the film fest next week, we’re headed out shortly for a triple feature – yes, you heard that right – a triple feature!! Yippee!! Tonight, we’re planning to see The Fourth Kind, The Box, and The Men Who Stare at Goats. No doubt, we’ll suffer tomorrow, but for now, who cares? On with the show!

So, what are your Friday night plans?

Enjoy the movies. I'll be writing!

OMG! I can barely sit through 1 film, let alone 3! Wow! I'm totally impressed. I guess you and Dan are getting your fix after being in N.MI... My plans, hang out with kids and unpack (just found our pots and pans...). Drinking eggnog. I LOVE the stuff (so do the kids!). Since I unpacked some booze too, I may spike mine up a bit...

Sounds like fun but I'm with Becky, I don't know if I could sit through three in one showing, wow! I sat and watched paint dry last night. lol

Your five words: treasure, peace, meatball, surf, and memory. Have fun!

Thanks, Susan! I hope your writing went well.

Well, in the end, Becky, we only saw two in the theater - THE FOURTH KIND and THE BOX - and then because they were both kind of tragic (and Dan was worried about us getting sick among all the coughing, sneezing moviegoers), we went home to watch a third movie - one of our happy faves, WONDER BOYS. Anyhoo, I hope you had fun with the kids - I'm delighted that you found your kitchen supplies (and the booze, of course). I had eggnog last night, too - only without the rum.

Oh, Deb, I feel like we've failed... We tried to watch three movies in a row (as we've done before), but alas, it wasn't meant to be. No worries. We had a good time nonetheless - although I must admit THE BOX disturbed me - not because it was creepy but because the ultimate moral was that women will destroy the world. Boo-hiss.

P.S. Thanks for the five words... now, what do I do?

LOL... I still can't find the rum... I must still have a kitchen box in the garage somewhere... I made due with what I had... some caramel liquor that a fellow eBayer sent me from NYC. The people you meet on eBay, I tell you!!! They bought my kids' x-country skis last Christmas, but we accidentally sent 2 left boots. We swaped, all paid by us, and they tucked in more than a few sample bottles from their beverage distribution company... :-)

I don't blame you for not wanting to share the germs with others. Yuck!

Guess what else I unpacked (and promptly put in the "Goodwill box")... a hurricane shot glass from Pat O Brians... Ahh... the memories.... hmmmm....maybe I shouldn't give it away....

Hi, Becky! That makes me think of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - when Captain Jack says, "Why is the rum gone?" That's hilarious about your eBay pals, though.

At the moment, all our booze are in storage... we have two beers in the fridge, and a mostly empty wine bottle. Sad, really.

As for the germs, we can't afford to be sick this week, not with the festival less than five days away. Yikes!

And while I can appreciate your desire to reduce your "stuff," I highly recommend keeping your NOLA shot glass. There are so many little memory-inducing things like that I wish Katrina had spared. Don't toss it! (But, of course, that's just my humble opinion.)

You just work the five words into a post, any way you want. Some people do paragraphs for each word, or a short story, a poem - whatever you like!

Thanks, Deb! I'll try my hand at a little story or poem later today...
